What are Lei'd Island Rolls?
Meet Handheld Sushi, the Lei'd Way

Handheld Aussie-Style Sushi

If you’ve walked into Lei’d Island Kitchen lately, you’ve probably noticed something new on the menu — the Lei’d Island Roll. It’s not traditional sushi. It’s not a hand roll. So what is it? Glad you asked.

Handheld sushi, built for real life

The Lei’d Island Roll is our take on Aussie-style sushi — a handheld, uncut roll that’s bigger than a hand roll and cleaner than a sushi burrito. Instead of slicing the roll into little pieces you have to chase around a plate with chopsticks, we keep it whole. Wrapped tight. Ready to grab and eat.

No chopsticks. No soy sauce dishes. No rolls falling apart the second you pick them up. Just sushi that fits your day.

Where Aussie-style sushi comes from

If you’ve traveled through Australia, you already know this format. Down under, handheld sushi rolls are everywhere — grab-and-go counters on street corners, in food courts, and near the beach. The whole idea is simple: sushi you can eat with one hand, on the move, without making a scene.

We fell in love with the format and made our own version — same fresh fish we’ve always been obsessed with, in a shape that finally makes sense for a lunch break, a commute, or a walk in the sun.

Lei'd Island Roll vs. traditional sushi vs. sushi burrito

Here’s how it stacks up:

  • Traditional sushi — sliced into pieces, eaten with chopsticks, best enjoyed sitting down. Beautiful, but fussy.

  • Hand roll — a cone of nori, rice, and filling. Great, but small, and it tends to fall apart.

  • Sushi burrito — big, overstuffed, often more rice than fish. Filling, but a lot.

  • Lei’d Island Roll — the sweet spot. Handheld like a hand roll, sturdy like a burrito, portioned like a proper meal. Wrapped so it actually stays together.

Meet the lineup

We’ve got six Lei’d Island Rolls to choose from, something for every kind of eater:

  • Get Lei’d Roll — our signature. Loaded and layered.
  • DMV Roll — made for the 703, 202, and 301.
  • Salmon Egg Avocado Roll — clean, creamy, quietly the favorite.
  • Spicy Tuna Roll — the classic, now handheld.
  • Cucumber Avocado Roll — plant-based, fresh, done.
  • Teriyaki Chicken Roll — for anyone who doesn’t do raw fish.

Same love. Same quality. New format.

Every Lei’d Island Roll is handcrafted with the same fresh fish and care you already trust from us, just in a brand new shape. We didn’t cut corners to make it convenient. We just made great sushi easier to eat.

You’ll find the Lei’d Island Roll at Lei’d Island Kitchen, 8032 Leesburg Pike, Vienna, VA — right in Tysons. We’re open every day, 10am to 10pm. Order in store, grab it to go, or get it delivered. Come see what handheld sushi is all about.
